This comprehensive class is offered in two sessions.
Session one covers the foundation of diabetes, different types, statistics, and healthy eating. It includes a deeper discussion of what foods those living with diabetes should consume, reviews the current dietary guidelines, and provides calorie and carbohydrate recommendations. Carbohydrate counting is also covered and educational resources are given.
Session two includes active lifestyles and the benefits to health and glucose through movement. Acute risks, such as hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia, and chronic risks, such as macrovascular and microvascular complications, are reviewed and steps people can take to reduce risks is covered in depth.
The emotional side of diabetes is also looked at including how to cope through healthy manners. Goals are created in class and followed up on post class.
